This is one of my favorite books. It is C.S. Lewis at his finest. It started as a series of radio talks during World War II. While my parents were prisoners of war on the other side of the world, Lewis explained to his beloved Britain a rational basis for becoming a Christian.
He describes the common doctrines of Christianity, such as original sin, the divinity of Jesus and God as Creator of all. Lewis doesn’t argue much about the existence of God but lays out the case for a moral argument. Since you know right from wrong, it is natural to believe in God, and logically necessary.
Lewis takes a practical approach. God has atoned for our sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Why He chose to do it that way and how atonement works isn’t really that important. It is enough to know that God does reconcile us to Himself.
Some ideas will be familiar to you. His “trilemma” suggests there are only three possibilities. Jesus was God, a liar or delusional. Other explanations aren’t explored but Lewis carefully walks you through his logic.
